regarding Meetup.com platform & survey

ATTENTION NM MOUNTAIN CLUB MEMBERS
Please read this important message regarding our Club's event RSVP system and
complete our quick survey.

As many of you have noticed, the Meetup.com platform, which we use to manage our Club’s hiking and climbing events, has introduced a paid membership called Meetup+. Unfortunately, we cannot disable this feature, and we apologize for any confusion it has caused. Please note that purchasing the Meetup+ membership is NOT required to participate in NM Mountain Club events.

This week, we learned that Meetup.com is testing additional changes related to Meetup+, which are affecting the functionality of certain users' accounts. Only some of our members are experiencing these limitations. You might be included in this testing segment if you:

  • Cannot add yourself to an event’s waitlist

  • Cannot see a list of event attendees

  • Cannot send direct messages

From what we understand, these changes are being tested specifically on the Meetup.com website, not in the phone apps. Therefore, a quick workaround is to download the Meetup.com app on your phone (Apple or Google) and log in to manage your events.

The purpose of this email is to inform you about the ongoing testing and to collect your feedback regarding the Meetup.com platform. Your honest feedback will help guide the NMMC Board as we navigate these changes. We are starting to research and evaluate alternative tools in case a transition is necessary in the future. If you have any software or platform suggestions, please reply with details.
